MELBOURNE - Feb 1/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system is located in the south Tasman Sea and will move south of New Zealand on Monday. A strong high pressure system is located south of the Bight and will be slow moving until the middle of the week. A cold front will move across Tasmania on Tuesday, reinforcing the southerly airflow across Bass Strait. The high will move across Tasmania late on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts contracting to the coast. Isolated thunderstorms near the eastern ranges. Light to moderate south to southwesterly winds, locally fresh about the coastal fringe.Monday 2 FebruaryCool to mild and and partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers. Isolated showers also possible about the northeast, mainly about the ranges. Mild to warm and generally sunny over the northern plains. Generally moderate to fresh southerly winds.Fire Danger - Generally high.Tuesday 3 FebruaryFine. Cool to mild and and partly cloudy in the south. Mild to warm and generally sunny over the northern plains. Light to moderate southerly winds, freshening along the coast during the afternoon.Wednesday 4 FebruaryCool to mild and partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers, contracting to the east in the afternoon. Warm and generally sunny over the northern plains. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Thursday 5 FebruaryIsolated morning showers in East Gippsland, otherwise fine.
