MELBOURNE - Jan 28/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over the Tasman Sea will intensify during today and move to the east of Bass Strait where it will remain on Friday before slowly moving away to the southeast on Saturday. During this period, a ridge of high pressure extending from south of the Bight to south of Tasmania will persist. The ridge south of Tasmania will weaken on Sunday as a high pressure system strengthens south of the Bight. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers over Gippsland, more frequent and heavier over East Gippsland with possible thunderstorms. Isolated showers extending to the Central district and the Otway Ranges, but dry conditions elsewhere. Mild in the south, but warmer and generally sunny north of the divide with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Generally high to very highFriday 30 JanuaryMostly cloudy over Gippsland with showers tending to areas of rain over East Gippsland with localised heavy falls. Isolated showers elsewhere over southern Victoria. Dry and mostly sunny over the north. Cool to mild in the south, but warmer north of the divide with moderate to fresh southerly winds.Saturday 31 JanuaryShowers easing over East Gippsland during the morning. Isolated showers elsewhere in the south. Cool to mild and mostly cloudy in the south, mild and generally sunny in the north. Moderate south to southwesterly winds, fresh along the coastal fringe.Sunday 1 FebruaryCool to mild and and partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers, mainly near the coast. Mild and generally sunny over the north.
