Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 25/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad surface trough over the interior of Queensland will remain slow moving. A ridge will build along the southern coast from Monday. A large scale upper trough will develop over southern inland Queensland on Tuesday, with the inland surface trough deepening in response.
Forecast for the rest of MondayA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms east of about Charters Towers to Mungindi and roughly north of the Flinders Highway. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate north to northwesterly winds, tending southwest to southeasterly over southern areas.Tuesday 27 JanuaryA major upper trough will move northeastwards towards southwestern Queensland. A surface trough will continue to extend from the southeast Gulf country to the Warrego, and the southern part of this trough will deepen in response to the approach of the upper system. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms east of this trough. Some locally heavy falls possible about the Maranoa and possibly the western Downs. A ridge will build along the southern Queensland coast, with a few showers likely in the onshore flow. Showers and thunderstorms also remain likely over the far north. Remaining fine and mostly sunny in the west.Wednesday 28 JanuaryThe upper trough will move slowly east, while surface trough will continue to extend from the southeast Gulf country to the Warrego. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms east of this trough. Remaining fine and mostly sunny in the west.Thursday 29 JanuaryThe upper trough will shift towards the northeast, while surface trough will continue to extend from the southeast Gulf country to the Warrego. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms east of this trough, although in the far south, the arrival of dryer air over the south will lead to a reduction in shower activity. Remaining fine and mostly sunny in the west.Friday until SundayShowers and thunderstorms should become more isolated and contract gradually northwards as dryer air filters into the state in southerly flow, and the upper trough moves offshore.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
