Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 24/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad surface trough will remain over the interior of Queensland during the weekend. A surface low lies off the southeast coast will continue moving further away for the remainder of today.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayA medium to high chance of showers and storms over the northern and central areas of the state. A slight to medium chance of showers and possible storms through the southeast and the far southwest. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate north to northwesterly winds, tending southwest to southeasterly over southern areas.Sunday 25 JanuaryA medium to high chance of showers and storms over the northern and central areas of the state. A slight to medium chance of showers and and storms over remaining areas, though fine and mostly sunny in the far southwest. Moderate north to northwesterly winds, tending southwest to southeasterly over southern areas.Monday 26 JanuaryAn upper level trough will lie over the southern inland, while the inland trough will extend from the southeast Gulf country to the Warrego. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms over the east of the state and throughout the tropics, and also about the southern interior districts. Remaining fine and mostly sunny in the west.Tuesday 27 JanuaryA stronger upper trough is likely to move northeastwards towards southwestern Queensland, while surface trough will continue to extend from the southeast Gulf country to the Warrego. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms east of this trough. Remaining fine and mostly sunny in the west.Wednesday 28 JanuaryThe upper trough will move slowly east, while surface trough will continue to extend from the southeast Gulf country to the Warrego. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms east of this trough. Remaining fine and mostly sunny in the west.Thursday until SaturdayShowers and thunderstorms should continue over the eastern half of the state in moist and unstable conditions and with the assistance of the upper level trough. The showers and storms should contract eastwards towards the end of the week as a new high in the Great Australian Bight pushes dry air into Queensland from the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
