Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 23/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad surface trough will remain over the interior of Queensland during the weekend. A surface low lies just off the southeast coast, and will move further away from the coast later today.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayA high chance of showers along the southeast coast, mainly in the morning. A slight to moderate chance of showers over the southeast interior, with a few thunderstorms possible over the far southwest. A moderate chance of showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, tending to rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. Moderate north to northwesterly winds over the tropics, tending southeasterly along the south coast. Light winds elsewhere.Sunday 25 JanuaryA broad area of low pressure will lie across western Queensland, producing showers and storms across most of the tropics. Fine and mostly sunny over western interior and most of the southern districts, except for the low chance of some showers and storms about the southern interior.Monday 26 JanuaryA broad area of low pressure will lie across central Queensland. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms over the eastern and northern districts. Fine and mostly sunny in the western interior and southern interior.Tuesday 27 JanuaryAn upper level trough may enter southwestern Queensland from the west, and could strengthen a surface trough extending from the Gulf country to the southern interior. A moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms east of this trough. Fine and mostly sunny over the western districts.Wednesday until FridayShowers and thunderstorms should continue over the eastern half of the state in moist and unstable conditions and with the assistance of the upper level trough. The showers and storms should contract eastwards towards the end of the week as a new high in the Great Australian Bight pushes dry air into Queensland from the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
