Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 23/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough over eastern Victoria will persist until late Saturday then move eastwards. A weakening cold front just west of Tasmania will slip southeastwards tonight with its northern tip crossing Bass Strait. A stronger cold front will move northeastwards from the Southern Ocean to reach southwest Victoria late Saturday night then sweep across southern Victoria early on Sunday. A high pressure system will develop over Bight waters during Monday and is expected to move east to southeast to lie southwest of Tasmania by Tuesday night.
Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers and thunderstorms over the east with possible severe thunderstorms early this evening then the activity mostly clearing late tonight. Dry elsewhere and cool in the south with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds. Warmer in the north with westerly winds easing after dark.Saturday 24 JanuaryWarm to hot in the north but milder in the south. Showers and local thunderstorms across the east and north, mainly in the afternoon. Isolated showers developing in the southwest during the evening. Generally moderate westerly winds and afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Fire Danger -  High, locally reaching Very High.Sunday 25 JanuaryIsolated showers extending across southern and mountain districts in the morning then contracting to the coast later in the day. Cool to mild in the south, mild to warm along the northern border. Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds extending throughout.Monday 26 JanuaryIsolated showers near the coast and about the eastern border. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south. Mild to warm and sunny along the northern border. Moderate southwest to southerly winds.Tuesday 27 JanuaryScattered showers in the east and isolated showers over remaining southern areas. Dry over the northwest. A cool to mild day with moderate southerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Saturday.Product IDV10310
