MELBOURNE - Jan 22/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand will be slow moving during the next few days. A weakening cold front south of the Bight will move across most of the State on Friday but will struggle to progress against the high, leaving a trough over eastern Victoria on Saturday. A stronger cold front will approach western Victoria late on Saturday, introducing cooler southwesterly winds to Victoria on Sunday. A high pressure system will develop in the Bight on Monday, extending a ridge across Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayEvening showers possible over southern areas, particularly over Gippsland and the eastern ranges, with the chance of a thunderstorm. Humid with milder south to southwesterly winds extending into the west and moderate seabreezes near the coast.Friday 23 JanuaryWarm to hot and humid in the north and east. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing mainly across eastern and central areas. A milder southwesterly change developing from the west in the morning.Fire Danger - Generally high.Saturday 24 JanuaryWarm to hot in the north but milder in the south. Showers and local thunderstorms across the east and north and isolated showers about the coast. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Sunday 25 JanuaryIsolated showers extending across southern and mountain districts, clearing later in the afternoon. Cool to mild in the south, mild to warm along the northern border. Moderate southwesterly winds extending throughout.Monday 26 JanuaryIsolated showers mainly about the eastern border. Cool to mild in the south, mild to warm along the northern border.
