MELBOURNE - Jan 21/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand will be slow moving during the week. A low pressure system over southern Queensland extends a trough into northern Victoria. A weakening cold front south of the Bight will move across most of the State on Friday but will struggle to progress against the high, leaving a trough over eastern Victoria on Saturday. A stronger cold front will approach western Victoria late on Saturday, introducing cooler southwesterly winds to Victoria on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayA dry and mostly sunny morning. Afternoon and evening showers possible over southern areas, particularly over Gippsland and the eastern ranges. A hot and humid day with mainly light to moderate north to northwesterly winds but milder south to southwesterly winds extending into the west and moderate afternoon seabreezes developing near the coast.Fire Danger - Generally high.Friday 23 JanuaryWarm to hot and humid in the north and east. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing across most eastern and northern areas. A milder southwesterly change developing over the west and south.Saturday 24 JanuaryWarm to hot in the north but milder in the south. Showers and local thunderstorms across the east and isolated showers about the coast. Generally fine over the western inland. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Sunday 25 JanuaryIsolated showers extending across southern and mountain districts, clearing later in the afternoon. Cool to mild in the south, mild to warm along the northern border.
