MELBOURNE - Jan 20/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak trough extends from the central west into the Maranoa and Warrego district, with dry airmass to its west and a highly moist and unstable airmass to its north and east. A new, more significant surface trough will enter southwestern Queensland late today and deepen, with a slow moving low pressure system forming over the interior of the state during Wednesday in response to a strong upper-level trough. The low should remain slow moving into Thursday before shifting slowly east southeast during Friday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayA medium to high chance of showers and storms through the very far northern tropics and also through central districts into the southeastern corner of the state. Some storms will possibly be severe. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms through the remaining tropics and west to the Maranoa. Cloud developing through the west though with just the slight chance of showers or storms in the the northwest. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds about eastern districts.Fire Danger - Very High in the Central West, Darling Downs, and Channel Country districts.Wednesday 21 JanuaryThe slow moving low pressure system over western Queensland will extend a very moist and unstable airmass through central districts into the Maranoa and southeastern interior, with rain areas, showers and thunderstorms expected and some heavy falls likely. Patchy rain and possible thunderstorms extend into the southeast and Wide Bay coasts. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms is expected over remaining areas northeast of Mount Isa to Longreach to Quilpie, with a higher likelihood over the southern tropics. Fine and windy conditions are expected in the southwest.Thursday 22 JanuaryThe low will most likely move a little north into the central west of the state and become slow moving. A moist and unstable wind flow into the low should result in showers, rain areas and storms through the southern tropics, into central districts and to the Maranoa with some heavy falls likely. Heavy falls are less likely through the southeastern corner of the state though patchy rain and possible isolated thunderstorms are expected. A medium to high chance of showers and storms is expected through the northern tropics and also through the Warrego. Fine and sunny conditions are expected in the far west.Friday 23 JanuaryThe low is expected to weaken and shift slowly east southeastwards. This should result in showers, rain areas and storms over central districts into the Maranoa and southeastern corner of the state with possible locally heavy falls, particularly with storms. A medium to high chance of showers and storms is expected through the tropics, while a slight to medium chance is expected over remaining western areas east of about Cloncurry to Windorah. Fine and sunny conditions should persist in the far west.Saturday until MondayThe low will likely weaken into a trough and shift further east, eventually contracting off the coast, though some uncertainty persists with its movement. Rainfall totals should decrease over central and southeast parts of the state though some showers and storms will likely continue. Showers and storms will also persist through the tropics, while fine and sunny conditions should spread through the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Cairns (Saddle Mountain) Radar reinstalled Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information Fire Weather Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 06:00 on Tuesday 20 January 2015 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2015, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
