MELBOURNE - Jan 20/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system lies over the south Tasman Sea and is moving further east. A deepening low pressure system over southern Queensland extends a developing trough to the western border of Victoria. The trough will move to eastern Victoria by Wednesday evening where it is likely to remain on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A weakening cold front is likely to pass just south of Victoria on Friday morning and another is expected to be crossing Bight waters on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayCloudy with patchy rain in the west and isolated showers and thunderstorms developing elsewhere. Mild to warm with moderating northeast to northerly winds.Wednesday 21 JanuaryCloudy periods with areas of rain over central and eastern districts easing to showers by the afternoon then clearing in the evening. Isolated thunderstorms in the east, clearing later. Mainly dry over the west. Generally warm and humid with light to moderate northeast to easterly winds and coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - Moderate to high.Thursday 22 JanuaryA dry and mostly sunny morning but the chance of afternoon showers over central and eastern areas, particularly on the ranges. Warm to very warm and humid with mainly light winds but milder afternoon sea breezes on the coastal fringe.Friday 23 JanuaryWarm to hot and humid in the north and east. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing across most eastern and northern areas. Isolated showers in the southwest. A milder southwesterly change developing over the west and south.Saturday 24 JanuaryWarm to hot in the north but milder in the south. Showers and local thunderstorms across the east and isolated showers about the coast. Generally fine over the inland west.
