MELBOURNE - Jan 18/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge across southern Victoria. The high will be centred just to the southwest of Victoria tonight then will move eastwards tomorrow, passing across Tasmania to reach the Tasman Sea late in the day. The high will move east across the Tasman Sea on Tuesday as a trough over South Australia moves to western Victoria late in the day. The trough will move to eastern Victoria by Wednesday evening where it is likely to remain on Thursday. Meanwhile a cold front crossing waters south of the Bight on Thursday will approach western Bass Strait late in the day. Forecast for the rest of SundayClear in the north, partly cloudy in the south. Light to moderate south to southwesterly winds, fresh along the coastal fringe and the ranges.Monday 19 JanuaryIsolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms possible over the far eastern ranges. Otherwise a dry generally mild and sunny day with light to moderate southeast to easterly winds, fresh in the afternoon near the coast.Fire Danger - Locally high.Tuesday 20 JanuaryCloud increasing from the west during the morning with areas of rain developing over western districts by early afternoon, extending to central and eastern districts during the late afternoon and evening. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh northerly winds ahead of a west to southwesterly change entering the far west at night.Wednesday 21 JanuaryCloudy periods with areas of rain over central and eastern districts easing to scattered showers in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible over East Gippsland. Mostly dry in the west, just the chance of isolated light showers over the southwest during the morning. Generally warm in the north and east with light to moderate east to northeasterly winds but milder, light to moderate southerly winds over the far west extending to central districts during the afternoon.Thursday 22 JanuaryDry and mostly sunny in the north. Partly cloudy in the south with scattered showers developing from the west during the afternoon and evening.
