Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 16/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state to the southeast tropics. Hot and humid over the northern districts ahead of the surface trough. A ridge of high pressure over southern Australia is pushing dry air into southern areas of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of FridayShowers and thunderstorms likely over the northern districts and the southeast tropics, and some of these storms may produce locally heavy falls. Fine and mostly clear over southern districts. Mostly moderate north to northwesterly winds over the north and east, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds over the remainder.Saturday 17 JanuaryShowers and thunderstorms likely over the northern districts and the southeast tropics, and some of these storms may produce locally heavy falls. Fine and mostly sunny over southern districts. Mostly moderate north to northwesterly winds over the north and east, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds over the remainder.Fire Danger -  Very High over the Southeast Coast and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.Sunday 18 JanuaryShowers and storms should remain active over the northern tropics. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior. A few showers and thunderstorms may return to the southeast coast, as a moist air begins to penetrate inland once more beneath a weak upper trough.Monday 19 JanuaryShowers and storms should remain over the northern tropics, though may ease about the state's far northwest as a high over South Australia pushes dry air northwards. Showers and thunderstorms becoming more likely over the southeast as a stronger upper trough increases instability in the region. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior.Tuesday 20 JanuaryShowers and storms should remain over the northern tropics. Showers and thunderstorms becoming are likely to develop through eastern districts as moisture increases and the upper trough increases instability further. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior.Wednesday until FridayShowers and storms should remain over the northern tropics. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior. The upper level trough is expected to push offshore Wednesday or Thursday, with instability gradually decreasing over eastern districts though showers are expected to continue.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
