MELBOURNE - Jan 16/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will cross Tasmania and Bass Strait tonight with an associated low passing well south of Tasmania. The next high pressure system will develop over the Bight on Saturday, extending a ridge across Victoria. The ridge will remain across Victoria on Sunday as the high moves to western Bass Strait late in the day. The high will move east of Tasmania to the Tasman Sea on Monday. The next cold front will enter southwestern Victoria late on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers over the southwest, extending to the central and south Gippsland coasts during the evening and at night. Moderate westerly winds.Saturday 17 JanuaryMostly cloudy in the south with isolated showers contracting to the coast by the afternoon. Dry and becoming sunny over the north. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong along the coastal fringe.Fire Danger - Generally high.Sunday 18 JanuaryPartly cloudy in the south with isolated coastal morning showers. Dry and mostly sunny in the north. A cool to mild day with light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Monday 19 JanuaryIsolated afternoon showers in the northeast. Dry in the remainder. Mild in the south, warm in the north with light to moderate southeast to easterly winds, fresh in the afternoon near the coast.Tuesday 20 JanuaryIsolated showers developing from the west.
