MELBOURNE - Jan 15/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system in the south Tasman Sea will move to the south of New Zealand today. A cold front will cross Tasmania and Bass Strait later today with an associated low passing well south of Tasmania. The next high pressure system will develop over the Bight on Saturday, extending a ridge across Victoria. The ridge will remain across Victoria on Sunday as the high moves to western Bass Strait late in the day. The high will move east of Tasmania to the Tasman Sea on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers developing over the western coast this morning then extending across the Southwest district and to the central and south Gippsland coasts during the afternoon and evening. Otherwise a mild, dry day with cloud increasing from the southwest. Moderate to fresh westerly winds and afternoon seabreezes on the East Gippsland coast.Fire Danger - Generally high.Saturday 17 JanuaryMostly cloudy in the south with isolated showers contracting to the coast by the afternoon. Dry and becoming sunny over the north. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong along the coastal fringe.Sunday 18 JanuaryPartly cloudy in the south with isolated morning showers, mainly near the coast. Dry and mostly sunny in the north. A cool to mild day with light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Monday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers in the northeast. Dry in the remainder.
