Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 14/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough stretches from the northwest of the state down to the southeast. Hot and humid over the state's north and east ahead of the surface trough. A ridge of high pressure over southern Australia is pushing dry air into the southern interior. The ridge should push the surface trough slowly northwards across Queensland over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers and thunderstorms over the northern districts, the southeast tropics, and in a broad band from the Gulf Country down to the Gold Coast. Some of the storms over the southeast tropics may be severe. Fine, generally mild and sunny over the southern interior. Mostly moderate north to northwesterly winds over the east, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds over the west.Friday 16 JanuaryThe surface trough should stretch from the Gulf Country across to the Capricornia district. Showers and thunderstorms are again likely near and north of the trough, and some of these storms may produce locally heavy falls. Fine and mostly sunny over the rest of the state except for the chance of some showers about the southeast coast in an onshore flow.Saturday 17 JanuaryShowers and storms are expected to remain active over the northern districts and southeast tropics as the surface trough remains stretched from the Gulf Country across to the Capricornia region. Mostly fine about the southeast. Staying fine, dry and sunny over the southern interior.Sunday 18 JanuaryShowers and storms should remain active over the northern tropics. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior. A few showers and thunderstorms may return to the southeast coast, as a moist begins to penetrate inland once more.Monday until WednesdayShowers and storms should remain over the northern tropics, though may ease about the state's far northwest as a high over South Australia pushes dry air northwards. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior. The chance of some showers or storms about the southeast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
