Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 14/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weaken monsoon trough extends across southern Cape York Peninsula to a low over the eastern Coral Sea. A trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior, acting as a boundary between a very humid and generally unstable airmass to its northeast, from dryer air to its southwest. The southern part of the trough is expected to shift further east over the interior of the state during today and should contract off the far southeast coast during Thursday; the trough will then move slowly northwards into the southern tropics over the following few days.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA medium to high chance of showers and storms over the state's far north and also in a band stretching from the Gulf Country down to the southeast and eastern tropical interior Mostly fine and partly cloudy along the tropical east coast, fine and clear over the southwest. Moderate to fresh northwest to northeast winds over eastern districts. Moderate west to southwest winds over the southern interior and southwest of the state.Thursday 15 JanuaryShowers and thunderstorms in a broad band to the north and east of a line from about Camooweal to Roma to the Gold Coast, with storms becoming more numerous and about the central highlands, Capricornia and northern Wide Bay. Some of these storms may produce gusty or damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall. Fine, mild and sunny over the southern interior. Mostly fine, humid and partly cloudy along much of the tropical east coast. Mostly moderate north to northwesterly winds over the east, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds over the west.Friday 16 JanuaryThe northern section of the surface trough should remain over the Gulf Country and northern interior, while the southern part will tend to move slowly northwards into the Capricornia district. Showers and thunderstorms are again likely near and north of the trough in a very moist and unstable environment; some of these storms may produce locally heavy falls. Fine and mostly sunny over the southern districts except for the chance of some showers about the southeast coast in an onshore flow.Saturday 17 JanuaryShowers and storms are expected to remain active over the northern districts and southeast tropics as the surface trough remains stretched from the Gulf Country across to the Capricornia region. Mostly fine about the southeast. Staying fine, dry and sunny over the southern interior.Sunday 18 JanuaryShowers and storms should remain active over the northern tropics. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior. A few showers and thunderstorms may return to the southeast coast, as a moist begins to penetrate inland once more.Monday until WednesdayShowers and storms should remain over the northern tropics, though may ease about the state's far northwest as a high over South Australia pushes dry air northwards. Fine and sunny over the southern interior and the central interior. The chance of some showers or storms about the southeast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
