Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 13/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
An intense low pressure system is located near Flinders Island at 3am Wednesday and will move away to the southeast of Tasmania during the day as an associated surface trough clears eastern Victoria by early afternoon. The next ridge of high pressure will extend across Bight waters towards northern Victoria on Thursday. A cold front over the Southern Ocean will pass across Tasmania and Bass Strait later Friday with another to follow late Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers over southern and mountain areas, but only isolated showers clearing later over the northern plains. Generally cool to mild with fresh and gusty southwesterly winds extending throughout during the morning, strong at times along the Gippsland coast an on the east ranges.Fire Danger -  Generally high in the north.Thursday 15 JanuaryIsolated light showers in the south tending to clear during the afternoon. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day in the south, warmer and mainly sunny in the north, with moderate southerly winds, fresh about the coast during the afternoon.Friday 16 JanuaryIsolated showers over southern districts, mainly near the coast. Dry over the north. A mild and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh westerly winds tending southwesterly.Saturday 17 JanuaryIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts. Dry over the northern plains. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.Product IDV10310
