MELBOURNE - Jan 10/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of Western Australia extends a ridge south of the State. A low pressure trough near the northern border will extend southwards over central and eastern districts during Sunday. A weak low embedded in this trough will develop further near Kangaroo Island Monday evening. This low will then deepen as it interacts with an upper trough overnight Monday into Tuesday before it moves southeastwards over Bass Strait by early Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayPatchy light rain in the south and west, tending to areas of rain in the northeast. Possible heavy falls and widespread flooding over parts of the Northeast Pastoral. . The chance of thunderstorms in the Northeast Pastoral. Light to moderate northerly winds in the far northeast with moderate to fresh southeast to southerly winds elsewhere, strong about the coasts.Sunday 11 JanuaryAreas of rain northeast of about Pukatja to Clare to Lameroo contracting east and clearing in the evening. Possible local heavy falls in the east of the Northeast Pastoral and local flooding. A slight to medium chance of showers following the rain and about the far west coast. Slight chance of morning showers about the Lower South East district. The chance of thunderstorms in the Northeast Pastoral. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds tending moderate northerly in the far northeast.Monday 12 JanuaryShowers over most parts of the Sate apart form northwest of about Coober Pedy, tending to areas of rain south of about Hawker during the day. The chance of thunderstorms northeast of about Oodnadatta to Kimba to Loxton. Warm in the north and east and cool to mild elsewhere. Moderate to fresh northeast to northwest winds, shifting west to southwesterly during the day.Tuesday 13 JanuaryMedium chance of showers over the agricultural areas and eastern parts of the northeast pastoral, tending to rain and increasing to high to very high chance on and east of the southern Flinders and Mt Lofty Ranges. Rain clearing to the east during the day then followed by showers, contracting to the southern agricultural area and western coasts by late evening. The chance of thunderstorms over eastern districts. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh southwest to northwesterly winds, tending south to southeasterly in the west in the evening. Winds strong at times about the coasts.Wednesday 14 January Slight chance of showers over the northern agricultural area, more likely about the southern agricultural area and a high chance in the Lower South East district. Cool to mild in the south, mild to warm elsewhere with moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds, strong at times about southern coasts. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Wednesday are expected to be 30 to 80 mm over the east of the Northeast Pastoral with possible local falls to 100 mm. 10 to 30 is expected over the remainder of the Northeast Pastoral and Flinders districts and the agricultural area with possible local falls of up to 50 mm over the Mount Lofty Ranges and with thunderstorms. Up to 10 mm is expected elsewhere apart from the far northwest. Thursday until SaturdayThe chance of showers over southern coasts and the east coast of Eyre Peninsula extending over the agricultural areas on Saturday. Showers more likely in the south. Cool to mild in the south and mild to warm elsewhere apart from the west with hot conditions on Thursday and Friday.
