Australia -- South Australia Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 9/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system 995 hPa near the northern border will move slowly southwards during Saturday and Sunday, to be south of the SA coast on Monday. The low will link with an upper trough and a tropical air mass over the northwest of Australia to produce a significant rain band over the northeastern half of the State today, and is expected to contract further northeast on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayAreas of rain, tending to showers in the west. Very heavy falls and widespread flooding over central parts of the Northeast Pastoral. Heavy falls and possible flooding over the rest of the Northeast Pastoral, the far east of the Northwest Pastoral, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland and the north of the Murraylands. The chance of thunderstorms in the Northeast Pastoral. Warm to hot in the northeast with fresh northerly winds. Cool to mild with fresh southeast to southerly winds over the remainder, strong about the coasts.Sunday 11 JanuaryAreas of rain northeast of about Pukatja to Clare to Lameroo, with local heavy falls in the east of the Northeast Pastoral and local flooding. A slight to medium chance of showers elsewhere, more likely about the far west coast later. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh north to northeasterly winds, turning southeast to southwesterly in the west and north.Monday 12 JanuaryAreas of rain and possible thunder about the eastern districts. A medium chance of showers over the remainder but becoming fine over the northwest. Warm in the north and east and cool to mild elsewhere. Moderate to fresh northeast to northwest winds, shifting west to southwesterly during the day.Tuesday 13 January
Slight chance of showers over the agricultural areas and parts of the northeast pastoral, increasing to medium chance about the southern agricultural area. Mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Tuesday are expected to be 50 to 150 mm over the Northeast Pastoral, Flinders, east of the Mid-North, Riverland and far north of the Murraylands. Local falls to 200 mm are possible in the Northeast Pastoral. 30 to 50 mm over the remainder of the ranges and eastwards and the far east of the Northwest Pastoral. 10 to 30 mm elsewhere northeast of a line Kingscote to Tarcoola with less than 10 mm further west, but reaching 10 to 15 mm about the far west coast.
Wednesday until FridaySlight chance of showers over the agricultural areas, more likely about southern coasts on Wednesday then contracting south of about Adelaide on Thursday and Friday.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm CDT Saturday.Product IDS10033
