MELBOURNE - Jan 9/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the New South Wales north coast, directing warm and humid tropical air over the state. A trough and frontal system is expected to lie near the southwest of the state on Friday. This next system will interact with moisture linked to a tropical low over northwest Western Australia leading to a low to deepen off South Australia over the weekend. Associated with this system will be a rain band, initially over South Australia, before entering the west of NSW on Saturday. The rain band is expected to extend across southern and western NSW on Sunday before weakening on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayShowers and thunderstorms in southern and eastern districts with isolated severe storms. Mostly fine remainder until rain develops in the west this evening. Southwest to southeasterly winds in the south, and northwest to northeasterly winds across the remainder.Saturday 10 JanuaryWidespread rain in the west, moderate to heavy falls in the far west. Showers in the southeast and about the central ranges and coast with isolated thunderstorms. Mostly fine in the northeast. Northeast to northwesterly, fresh to strong in the west.Sunday 11 JanuaryRain areas in the west and south with possible thunderstorms. Isolated showers in the north. Northeast to northwest winds, freshening in the west and along the coast.Monday 12 JanuaryIsolated showers in most districts but generally fine in the central north. Possible thunderstorms in the far west. North to northwest winds.Tuesday 13 JanuaryShowers in most districts, likely clearing in the far west.
