MELBOURNE - Jan 9/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A developing low pressure system near the northern border will move slowly southwards during Saturday and Sunday, to be south of the SA coast on Monday. The low will link with an upper trough and a tropical air mass over the northwest of Australia to produce a significant rain band over northern parts of the State today, then extend southeastwards over the ranges and eastern districts on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayAreas of rain and the chance of thunderstorms over the pastoral districts and the northern agricultural area. Heavy falls which may lead to flooding over the North West and North East Pastoral districts and possibly also over the Flinders, Mid North and Eastern Eyre Peninsula districts. Very heavy rain with widespread flooding northwest of Marree in the Northeast Pastoral district. Showers and the chance of thunderstorms over the southern agricultural area. Warm to hot in the northeast with fresh and gusty northeast winds, turning cool to mild with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds elsewhere, strong at times about ocean coasts.Saturday 10 JanuaryAreas of rain. Heavy falls and possible flooding over the Pastoral districts, Flinders, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Riverland and Murraylands. The chance of thunderstorms in the northeast. Warm to hot in the northeast with fresh northerly winds. Cool to mild with fresh southeast to southerly winds over the remainder, strong about the coasts.Sunday 11 JanuaryA medium chance of showers in the west. Areas of rain over the remainder, with the chance of thunderstorms in the east and also over the West Coast. Heavy falls and possible with flooding over the Pastoral districts, Flinders, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Riverland and Murraylands. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh north to northeasterly winds, turning southeast to southwesterly in the west and north.Monday 12 JanuaryAreas of rain and possible thunder about the eastern districts. A medium chance of showers over the remainder but becoming fine over the northwest. Heavy falls and possible flooding over the North East Pastoral district, Mount Lofty Ranges, Riverland and Murraylands. Warm in the north and east and cool to mild elsewhere. Moderate to fresh northeast to northwest winds, shifting west to southwesterly during the day.Tuesday 13 January Slight chance of showers over the agricultural areas and parts of the northeast pastoral, increasing to medium chance about the southern agricultural area. Mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Tuesday are expected to be 50 to 150 mm northeast of a line Giles to Cowell to Mount Gambier, with possible local falls up to 200 mm over the Pastoral and Flinders districts. 30 to 50 mm over the remainder of the agricultural area and West Coast and 10 to 30 mm elsewhere.
