MELBOURNE - Jan 7/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure near western and southern South Australian will slowly move inland during today. A tropical low near the northwest coast of Western Australia combined with an upper trough developing over the southeast of Western Australia, is likely to extend a significant rain band into the far northwest of the State from Thursday. This is forecast to extend southeastwards over most of the State by Friday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayWidespread showers and frequent thunderstorms over the northern agricultural area and southern pastoral districts, particularly during the afternoon. Rain periods in the far north in the afternoon. A medium to high chance of showers elsewhere with possible thunderstorms. Warm to hot with light to moderate northerly winds ahead of a milder, moderate to fresh southerly change in the south.Friday 9 JanuaryAreas of rain and the chance of thunderstorms. Heavy falls and possible widespread flooding over the North West Pastoral district northeast of a line Giles to Port Augusta and the northwest of the North East Pastoral district. Hot in the northeast with moderate northerly winds, turning cool to mild with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds elsewhere.Saturday 10 JanuaryAreas of rain. Heavy falls and possible widespread flooding over the Northwest Pastoral district northeast of a line Giles to Port Augusta, and the Northeast Pastoral and Flinders districts. The chance of thunderstorms over central and eastern parts. Generally cool to mild with moderate to fresh southerly winds. Warm to hot in the northeast with fresh north to northeasterly winds. Cool to mild with fresh southeast to southerly winds over the remainder, strong about the coasts.Sunday 11 January A medium chance of showers in the west. A medium to high chance of rain over the remainder, with the chance of thunderstorms in the northeast. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh northwest to northeasterly winds, turning west to southwesterly in the west and north. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Sunday are expected to be 50 to 150 mm northeast of a line Giles to Port Augusta to Renmark. 30 to 50 mm over the northern agricultural area and 10 to 30 mm elsewhere.
