Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 7/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the New South Wales north coast, directing warm and humid tropical air into a broad but fairly weak trough over the state's west. The inland trough is expected to weaken further before another trough moves into the west later Thursday and Friday. This next system will interact with moisture linked to a tropical low over northwest Western Australia later in the week generating a rain band initially over South Australia before entering the far west of NSW on Saturday. This second trough will again be slow-moving and may linger over the region through the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayThe chance of showers and thunderstorms over the central and southern ranges, and adjacent slopes. A few showers about the northern coast and ranges. Fine elsewhere. East to northeasterly winds, fresh about the central and southern coasts.Thursday 8 JanuaryShowers and thunderstorms developing over central and southern districts later in the day, more likely near the Victorian border. A few showers on the northern coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot day in the west. East to northeasterly winds near the coast, freshening in southern and central areas. North to northwesterly winds inland, freshening in the south ahead of a late southwest change.Friday 9 JanuaryShowers and possible thunderstorms in southern and central districts, more likely in the south. Mostly fine elsewhere. Hot day in the northwest. Southwest to southeasterly winds in the south, and northwest to northeasterly winds across the remainder.Saturday 10 JanuaryRain developing in the west. Slight to medium chance of showers over much of the remainder. Chance of afternoon thunderstorms on the southern ranges. Northeast to northwesterly winds tending southerly in the south and west.Sunday 11 JanuaryRain in the southwest. Slight to medium chance of showers over much of the remainder.
