MELBOURNE - Jan 5/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure over the North East Pastoral district will remain will move southwards on Tuesday. A tropical low near the northwest coast of Western Australia combined with an upper trough developing over the east of Western Australia, is likely to extend a significant rain band into the northwest of the State from late Wednesday and is forecast to extend southeastwards over most of the State during Thursday and Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayThe chance of showers and thunderstorms northeast of a line Tarcoola to Renmark, more likely northeast of Pukatja to Yunta. Mild to warm about the southern coasts, hot to very hot elsewhere. Moderate northeast winds, tending fresh southeast in the south, strong about southern coasts.Tuesday 6 JanuaryThe chance of showers and thunderstorms developing from late morning over the Pastoral districts, Flinders and West Coast district. Warm to hot about the coasts, hot to very hot inland. Light to moderate southeast to southeasterly winds, fresh about the coasts and in the northwest interior.Wednesday 7 JanuaryThe chance of showers and thunderstorms developing in the northwest and south of about Roxby Downs, with a medium to high chance of showers over the agricultural area and south of the pastoral districts in the afternoon and evening more likely in the far northwest. A very high chance of rain developing in the far northwest. Warm in the far northwest, but hot to very hot elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, turning north to northeasterly in the afternoon and freshening in the west.Thursday 8 January Fine northeast of Marree. Areas of rain and the chance of thunderstorms elsewhere, with heavy falls and widespread flooding possible over the Northwest Pastoral north of Coober Pedy. Warm to hot with light moderate northerly winds ahead of a milder, moderate to fresh southerly change in the south. Friday 9 January Areas of rain and the chance of thunderstorms, with heavy falls and possible widespread flooding over the Northwest Pastoral north of Coober Pedy and the Northeast Pastoral west of about Oodnadatta. Local heavy falls possible further south. Hot in the northeast with moderate northerly winds, turning cool to mild with moderate to fresh south to southeast winds elsewhere. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Friday are expected to be 50 to 150 mm north of Coober Pedy and west of about Oodnadatta. 30 to 50 mm over the south of the Pastorals and the northern agricultural area and 10 to 30 mm over the southern agricultural area and the far northeast. Saturday until MondayRain and the chance of thunderstorms, contracting northeastwards and easing to the chance of showers during the period.
