MELBOURNE - Jan 1/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak trough of low pressure near the western border will move across the West Coast and Eyre Peninsula during Friday afternoon then extending to southern and gulf coasts during the evening. The trough will remain near stationary overnight then move northeastwards on Saturday to be near Leigh Creek to Broken Hill by late evening. A high pressure system will develop southwest of the Bight on Saturday and move slowly eastwards on Sunday and Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPossible dry thunderstorms northwest of Tarcoola this afternoon. A warm to hot evening with light to moderate northeasterly winds, tending moderate to fresh south to southeasterly near the coast in the afternoon and early evening.Friday 2 JanuaryVery hot throughout with fresh to strong and gusty northerly winds bringing areas of raised dust. A milder, fresh and gusty southerly change in the far west will extend to Eyre Peninsula by afternoon then to central and eastern coastal districts during the evening. Possible dry thunderstorms developing during the afternoon over the far west. The chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening northeast of Moomba.Saturday 3 JanuaryThe chance of showers and thunderstorms across the State, more likely in the far northeast and over the ranges during the afternoon. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northerly winds, ahead of a milder fresh southerly change extending to a line near Leigh Creek to Broken Hill by late evening.Sunday 4 JanuaryThe chance of showers and thunderstorms north of a line Lameroo to Kimba, more likely northeast of about Leigh Creek. Mild to warm about the coasts, hot to very hot inland. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds extending throughout all districts except the far northeast.Monday 5 January The chance of showers and thunderstorms northeast of Leigh Creek. Warm to hot about the coasts, hot to very hot inland. Light to moderate southeasterly winds, fresh about the coasts. Cumulative rainfall totals to midnight Monday are expected to be less than 2 mm, with local falls of 5 to 10 mm with thunderstorms, possibly reaching 10 to 30 mm northeast of about Leigh Creek. Tuesday until ThursdayThe chance of showers and thunderstorms northeast of Leigh Creek on Tuesday and Wednesday, then possibly showers extending from the west on Thursday.
