MELBOURNE - Dec 31/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strengthening high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the northern New South Wales coast, while a second high lies just to the west of Tasmania. A trough between these systems will move across southern and western parts of the state today before decaying on Friday as the Tasman Sea high becomes dominant. This high will draw warm and increasingly humid northerly winds down from the tropics during Friday and Saturday, leading to unsettled conditions in many districts. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to peak on Sunday and Monday as the next trough moves into New South Wales from the west. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers and the chance of thunderstorms in the northeast, mainly east of the Divide. Possible afternoon showers or thunderstorms about the central and southern ranges. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. A hot day in the west. Humid in the northeast. North to northeasterly winds near the coast, variable winds inland. A southerly change developing across the south.Friday 2 JanuaryShowers and possible thunderstorms in most northern and eastern districts, becoming more likely about the ranges and western slopes during the afternoon. Fine in the southwest. A hot to very hot day in the west. Humid in the northeast. Morning fog patches along the coast and ranges. North to northeasterly winds, freshening along the coast, tending variable inland.Saturday 3 JanuaryThe chance of showers or thunderstorms in most districts, although generally fine east of the Divide. A hot to very hot day in the west. Humid north to northeasterly winds, freshening along southern and central parts of the coast.Sunday 4 JanuaryShowers and thunderstorms in most areas, except the northern coast, becoming more likely about the southern and central tablelands and adjacent western slopes during the afternoon.
