MELBOURNE - Dec 31/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure near the western border will move slowly eastwards, reaching a line Mount Gambier to Wudinna early on Saturday and Yunta to Oodnadatta late Saturday evening. A high pressure system will develop southwest of the Bight on Saturday and move slowly eastwards on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayThe slight chance of showers and thunder over Kangaroo Island and the Lower South East till early afternoon. Possible dry thunderstorms northwest of Tarcoola during the afternoon. Warm near southern coasts, hot over the remainder, grading to very hot in the north and west. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, tending moderate to fresh south to southeasterly near the coast in the afternoon and evening.Friday 2 JanuaryVery hot throughout with freshening northerly winds bringing areas of raised dust in the far west, ahead of a milder, fresh and gusty southerly change in the far west later. Possible dry thunderstorms developing during the afternoon over the west of the Northwest Pastoral district. The chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening northeast of Moomba.Saturday 3 JanuaryThe chance of showers and thunderstorms across the State, more likely in the far northeast. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northerly winds, ahead of a milder fresh southerly change extending to a line near Yunta to Oodnadatta late evening.Sunday 4 January The chance of showers and thunderstorms north of a line Lameroo to Kimba, more likely northeast of about Leigh Creek. Cumulative rainfall totals to midnight Sunday are expected to be less than 5 mm, with local falls of 5 to 20 mm northeast of about Leigh Creek with thunderstorms.
