MELBOURNE - Dec 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Bight will move across Victoria on Wednesday and will be located in the Tasman Sea at night. A weak cold front will move through Bass Strait on Thursday, with a new high building over Tasmania at night. This high will move over the Tasman Sea on Friday and strengthen. The next cold front will approach Victoria Saturday morning before moving through western and central parts of the State during the afternoon and evening. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine apart from isolated showers near the coast. Moderate to fresh west to southwest winds.Wednesday 31 DecemberFine. Mild in the south, warm in the north. Light winds inland and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - Very High in the Northwest. Moderate to High elsewhere.Thursday 1 JanuaryIsolated showers over southern and mountain areas, mainly during the morning and early afternoon. Mild in the south but warm to hot in the north. Light winds inland, moderate southwest to southerly near the coast.Friday 2 JanuaryFine apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Gippsland ranges during the afternoon and evening. A hot day with a moderate to fresh northerly wind.Saturday 3 JanuaryHot at first with a fresh to strong and gusty northerly wind. A cooler southwesterly change developing in the southwest during the middle of the day before moving through central and northwestern districts later in the day and approaching eastern areas at night.
