MELBOURNE - Dec 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure will remain over southern Victoria on Sunday as a low pressure trough extends from the north into western Victoria on Sunday afternoon. A cold front south of the Bight is expected to reach western Victoria on Monday morning then push rapidly east over central districts in the afternoon to reach the far east in the evening. Another cold front will cross southern Victoria on Tuesday with the next high developing in the Bight. This new high will move across Victoria on Wednesday, New Years Eve, and will be located in the Tasman Sea at night. Forecast for the rest of SundayFine and sunny over western and central districts, but isolated showers and thunderstorms developing in the east during the afternoon, mainly about the Gippsland ranges. A generally warm day with light to moderate northerly winds but milder seabreezes developing about the coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger - High to very high.Monday 29 DecemberShowers developing, mostly over southern and mountain areas. Isolated thunderstorms over central and eastern districts. Warm, fresh to locally strong north to northwesterly winds ahead of a cool, gusty southwesterly change extending from the west around midday across central areas late in the afternoon then the east in the evening.Tuesday 30 DecemberScattered showers over southern and mountain areas. Dry over the far northwest. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh west to southwest winds, stronger about the coast.Wednesday 31 DecemberIsolated morning showers in the far east. Mild in the south, warm in the north.
