Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 26/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough moving over northeast New South Wales is expected to remain stalled near the Queensland border today, while a weak high pressure ridge extends across southern and central districts. Warm and humid air feeding into the trough, assisted by the presence of an upper-level system, is expected to bring rain to the northeast during Saturday and Sunday, and may produce some heavy falls. This pattern is likely to linger through much of the weekend, before weakening and moving away to the east later on Sunday or Monday. Meanwhile, southern and central areas should remain mostly fine, although the approach of another trough may result in the odd shower or storm during Sunday and Monday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayShowers and possible thunderstorms over the northeast third of the state, increasing to rain areas near the Queensland border with possible heavy falls. Morning drizzle on the eastern side of southern and central ranges. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Sunday 28 DecemberRain areas in the northeast, with moderate falls possible. The chance of showers over most remaining eastern and central districts. Thunderstorms possible over the central inland, and the northeast. Fine in the southwest. Mostly east to northeasterly winds in the east, freshening along the coast, tending light and variable in the west.Monday 29 DecemberThe chance of showers and thunderstorms in the north northeast, mainly about the northern tablelands. Possible showers or thunderstorms over the southern inland, otherwise fine in the west. Mainly northeasterly winds near the coast, and northwest to southwesterly winds inland, becoming fresh and gusty in the afternoon.Tuesday 30 DecemberThe chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms in the northeast, mainly about the tablelands, and a possible shower or two on the southern ranges. Fine elsewhere. Northerly winds in the northeast, and a southeast to southwesterly change extending across the remainder. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Saturday.Product IDN10031
