MELBOURNE - Dec 26/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge towards the Queensland coast, while a trough and cold front move through northern and eastern New South Wales. Today will see showers and thunderstorms mostly contracting to the northeast as a ridge brings cooler and more stable air to remaining areas. The trough is likely to stall near the northeast corner of the state through weekend, with further rain forecast and possible heavy falls about parts of the northern coast. Another trough is expected to develop over the state's west early in the new week. Forecast for the rest of FridayShowers and thunderstorms in the northeast. The chance of showers over the southern and central coast, and adjacent ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Northeast to northwesterly winds in the northeast, with a cooler southerly change extending through remaining areas, fresh to strong along the coast.Saturday 27 DecemberShowers and possible thunderstorms over the northeast third of the state, increasing to rain areas on the north coast with possible heavy falls. Cloudy with the chance of a shower or two about the central and southern coast and ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Sunday 28 DecemberRain areas about the northern coast and ranges with possible heavy falls. The chance of showers over most remaining eastern and central districts. Thunderstorms possible over the central inland, and the northeast. Fine in the far west. East to northeasterly winds in the east, freshening along the coast, tending light and variable in the west.Monday 29 DecemberThe chance of showers and thunderstorms in eastern and central districts. Fine in the west.
