Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough over eastern Victoria will move eastwards tonight as a cold front over southwest Victoria moves across central Victoria this evening. The cold front will dive southeastwards towards New Zealand on Friday, Boxing Day, as a ridge of high pressure develops over southern Victoria. The ridge will remain over southern Victoria during the weekend but another low pressure trough is expected to extend from NSW into northern Victoria on Sunday. The trough will contract eastwards across the State on Monday as the next cold front approaches southwest Victoria.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers in the far east clearing this evening. Scattered showers over the southwest extending over remaining southern districts this evening. The chance of hail and thunder about the far southwest coast late tonight. Fresh southwesterly to southerly winds over southern and western districts extending throughout tonight.Friday 26 DecemberScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, clearing during the afternoon. Possible thunderstorms about the Central and West Gippsland coast during the early morning. Cool in the south but a little milder in the north with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Fire Danger -  Generally high.Saturday 27 DecemberFine and generally sunny. A mild to warm day with light to moderate southerly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Sunday 28 DecemberFine and sunny over western half of the State, but isolated showers and thunderstorms developing over the east during the afternoon. A generally warm day with light northerly winds inland, but milder seabreezes developing about the coast during the afternoon.Monday 29 DecemberIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the east. Scattered showers developing over the southwest. Dry over the northwest plains. Warm in the north and east at first with northerly winds, but milder, moderate to fresh westerly winds gradually extending throughout.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Friday.Product IDV10310
