MELBOURNE - Dec 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure will remain near stationary over the far northeast of the State. A ridge of high pressure will extend across the Bight until a front moves over south of the State on Thursday. A new ridge of high pressure will develop south of the Bight on Friday and extend to the Lower South East coast on the weekend. A second front will move across southern coasts late on Monday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine apart from the slight chance of showers and thunderstorms northeast of about Moomba. Mild in the south, grading to hot in the far northeast with light to moderate southwest to southerly winds, fresh about the coasts in the afternoon.Thursday 25 DecemberThe slight chance of showers northeast of Moomba, with the chance of a thunderstorm. The slight chance of showers about southern coasts, extending over the southern agricultural area and west coasts during the morning, more likely about southern coasts and ranges. Showers contracting to coasts during the evening. A slight chance of a thunderstorm about the Lower South East coast in the evening. Cool in the south, grading to hot in the far northeast. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Friday 26 DecemberThe slight chance of light showers about southern and western coasts during the early morning, otherwise fine. Cool near southern coasts, grading to hot in the far northeast. Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds.Saturday 27 DecemberFine and mostly sunny. Mild in the south, grading to hot in the north. Moderate south to southeast winds and fresh afternoon coastal sea breezes.Sunday 28 December Fine and mostly sunny. Warm to hot in the south, hot in the north. Light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds and afternoon coastal sea breezes. Cumulative rainfall totals to midnight Sunday are expected to be less than 2 mm, reaching 2 to 5 mm about the Lower South East coast, southern Mt Lofty Ranges and northeast of Moomba. Monday until WednesdaySlight chance of showers about southern and western coasts late on Monday evening and Tuesday morning then a fine day on Wednesday. Warm to hot on Monday then becoming cool to mild from Tuesday.
