MELBOURNE - Dec 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough will remain slow moving over northeast Victoria today as a narrow ridge of high pressure extends over Tasmania. The low pressure trough will deepen over eastern Victoria on Thursday, Christmas Day, with a cold front expected to move across Victoria during the afternoon and evening. The cold front will dive southeastwards towards New Zealand on Friday, Boxing Day, as a ridge of high pressure develops over southern Victoria. The ridge will remain over southern Victoria during the weekend, as a high pressure centre forms in the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayHumid in the east with scattered showers. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible about the northeast ranges. Fine elsewhere apart from possible early morning showers about the southwest coast. Mild in the south but warmer in the north. Generally light to moderate south to southeasterly wind.Fire Danger - Generally High.Thursday 25 DecemberIsolated showers and local thunderstorms possible in the far east. Scattered showers developing over the southwest during the afternoon and extending over remaining southern districts during the evening. Mild to warm with generally moderate westerly winds shifting cooler, moderate to fresh southwesterly from the west in the afternoon and evening.Friday 26 DecemberScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, clearing during the afternoon. Cool in the south and mild in the north with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Saturday 27 DecemberFine and generally sunny.
