MELBOURNE - Dec 22/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the central Tasman Sea will drift further eastwards on Monday. A low pressure trough over western Victoria will remain slow moving on Monday before moving slowly eastwards on Tuesday crossing central districts by the afternoon the stalling over the northeast Tuesday night. The low pressure trough will persist over eastern Victoria on Wednesday while a narrow high pressure ridge extends across Tasmania. The low pressure trough will deepen over eastern Victoria on Thursday as a cold front approaches from the west. Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers and thunderstorms in the northeast, more isolated elsewhere in the east. Isolated showers in the west extending to central areas areas at night with the chance of evening thunderstorms in the far west. Humid with moderate north to northeasterly winds tending southeasterly near the coast. A westerly change over the western and central inland areas during the evening.Tuesday 23 DecemberShowers and possible thunderstorms over central and eastern Victoria. Isolated showers elsewhere clearing in the northwest during the morning. Humid and warm to hot in the north and east ahead of a cooler southwesterly change extending from the west, reaching the southwest during the early morning and eastern districts by evening. Moderate to locally fresh northwest to northerly winds shifting cooler, fresh and gusty southwesterly from the west.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Wednesday 24 DecemberScattered showers in the east with isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible about the northeast ranges. Fine elsewhere apart from possible early morning showers about the southwest coast. Mild in the south but warmer in the north. Generally light to moderate south to southeasterly wind.Thursday 25 DecemberIsolated showers and local thunderstorms in the far east. Isolated showers developing in the southwest during the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Mild to warm with generally light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Friday 26 DecemberScattered showers extending over southern and mountain districts, clearing during the afternoon.
