Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 21/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the central Tasman Sea will drift further eastwards on Monday. A low pressure trough over western Victoria will remain slow moving on Monday before moving slowly eastwards on Tuesday crossing central districts by the afternoon the stalling over the northeast Tuesday night. The low pressure trough will persist over eastern Victoria on Wednesday while a narrow high pressure ridge extends across Tasmania. The low pressure trough will deepen over eastern Victoria on Thursday as a cold front approaches from the west.
Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers and local thunderstorms developing in the east during the afternoon, mainly on the ranges. Isolated showers in the southwest extending to remaining western areas late in the afternoon and evening and reaching central areas at night. The chance of evening thunderstorms in the far west. Warm in the south grading to hot in the north although cloud increasing. Moderate to locally fresh north to northeasterly winds developing and tending southeasterly near the coast. A westerly change over the western inland late in the day.Fire Danger -  Generally Very High.Tuesday 23 DecemberShowers and possible thunderstorms over central and eastern Victoria. Isolated showers elsewhere clearing in the northwest during the morning. Warm to hot in the north, milder in the south. Moderate northwest to northerly winds shifting southwesterly from the west.Wednesday 24 DecemberScattered showers and thunderstorms in the east contracting eastwards. Fine over the west except for possible showers over the far southwest. Mild in the south but warmer in the north. Generally light to moderate south to southeasterly wind.Thursday 25 DecemberScattered showers and local thunderstorms in the far east. Isolated showers developing in the southwest. Fine elsewhere. Mild to warm with generally light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Monday.Product IDV10310
