MELBOURNE - Dec 21/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is centred over the Tasman Sea. A broad trough of low pressure over the west and south of the State will move slowly northeastwards, reaching the far northeast of the State on Tuesday, where it will remain stationary through to the middle of the week. A strong high pressure system will develop southwest of Western Australia during the week. A weak front will move over south of the State on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayThe chance of showers and thunderstorms in the west, extending eastwards to reach Coober Pedy to Kingscote later this evening. Showers and thunderstorms more likely west of Ceduna to Ernabella. Possible gusty winds and heavy falls with thunderstorms in the far west. Hot with moderate northeast to northwesterly winds ahead of a milder southerly change near the coasts.Monday 22 DecemberA medium chance of showers and possible thunderstorms extending from the west, reaching eastern districts later, more likely over the West Coast district, Lower Eyre Peninsula and the south and west of the North West Pastoral district. Showers and thunderstorms gradually clearing western districts in the afternoon or evening, although the chance of showers persisting near the coast. Hot to very hot in the northeast with moderate northeast to northwesterly winds, mild to warm elsewhere with moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds.Tuesday 23 DecemberThe slight chance of showers and thunderstorms east of Ernabella to Keith, contracting northeastwards to be northeast of Marree late evening. The slight chance of showers persisting near coasts, southern ranges and Eyre Peninsula. Mild grading to hot in the northeast with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds, tending northeast to northwesterly in the far northeast.Wednesday 24 DecemberThe slight chance of showers about far southern and western coasts, and the slight chance of showers and thunderstorms northeast of Moomba. Mild grading to hot in the far northeast with light to moderate southwest to southerly winds.Thursday 25 December The slight chance of showers and thunderstorms northeast of Moomba until evening. The slight chance of showers developing over the southern agricultural area during the day, more likely near southern coasts. Cool to mild near southern coasts, grading to hot in the far northeast. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals to midnight Thursday are expected to be 1 to 5 mm, although most parts of the eastern districts will see less than 1 mm. Higher totals of 5 to 10 mm are expected over western Eyre Peninsula, the West Coast and the south and west of the North West Pastoral district, with possible falls of 10 to 40 mm with thunderstorms. Friday until SundayThe slight chance of showers near the coasts Friday, then fine on the weekend.
