MELBOURNE - Dec 20/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system off the southern New South Wales coast will move well out over the north Tasman Sea by Sunday night. A low pressure trough will extend from South Australia to western Victoria late on Sunday and remain almost stationary over western Victoria on Monday. The trough will then move slowly eastwards on Tuesday and link with a weak cold front crossing Tasmania. The low pressure trough will persist over eastern Victoria on Wednesday while a narrow high pressure ridge extends across Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of SundayFine apart from local early fog in the south and the chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms about the East Gippsland ranges. Generally warm in the south, hot in the north. Light northeast to northwesterly winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes but wind shifting cooler southwesterly in the southwest during the afternoon.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Monday 22 DecemberShowers and local thunderstorms in the east. Isolated showers in the southwest but fine over the northwest. Warm in the south, hot in the north. Moderate to locally fresh northeasterly winds shifting southwesterly in the west.Tuesday 23 DecemberShowers and possible thunderstorms over central and eastern Victoria. Isolated showers elsewhere. Warm to hot in the north, milder in the south. Moderate northwest to northerly winds shifting southwesterly from the west.Wednesday 24 DecemberScattered showers and thunderstorms in the east. Fine over the west except for possible showers over the far southwest. Mild in the south but warmer in the north.
