MELBOURNE - Dec 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front moved across the south of the State today. A high pressure system will move over the Bight on Wednesday ahead of another front expected to move across the southern districts on Thursday morning. Another high will develop over the Bight on Friday then move slowly east as a broad trough develops over western parts of the State during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayShowers clearing from the southern coasts. Possible thundery showers over the pastoral districts north of about Woomera, more likely in the far northwest. A cool to mild evening with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Wednesday 17 DecemberPossible thundery showers in the far northwest, extending over pastoral districts north of about Roxby Downs and becoming more likely in the far northwest during the afternoon. Mild to warm in the south grading to hot in the northeast. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds with fresh afternoon sea breezes. Winds becoming moderate to fresh northwesterly about southern coasts late afternoon and evening.Thursday 18 DecemberPossible thundery showers over pastoral districts north of about Coober Pedy, more likely in the far northwest. The chance of morning showers over the southern agricultural area, contracting to Lower South East by evening. Cool to mild in the south, grading to hot in the far north. Moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.Friday 19 DecemberFine apart from a possible thundery showers in the far northwest and the slight chance of light morning shower about the Lower South East coast. Mild in the south, grading to hot in the north. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh about the coasts with afternoon sea breezes.Saturday 20 December Possible thundery showers in the far northwest. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds. Mild to warm in south, hot in the north. Cumulative rainfall totals to midnight Saturday are expected to be 2 to 5 mm over the Lower South East district and northwest of Roxby Downs, with local falls of 5 to 20 mm with thunderstorms in the far northwest. Less than 2 mm elsewhere. Sunday until TuesdayThundery showers extending across the far west on Sunday then over the reminder on Monday, contracting to far north on Tuesday. Possible showers developing about the western and southern coasts on Tuesday. Moderate northerly winds and hot to very hot temperatures.
