MELBOURNE - Dec 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough will remain over central and eastern Victoria today. The trough will move eastwards early Tuesday as a cold front moves across the State during the afternoon and evening. A weak high pressure system will move quickly across Victoria on Wednesday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Wednesday night as a cold front approaches from waters south of the Bight. The cold front will move across Victoria on Thursday as a high pressure system moves into the Bight. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers and thunderstorms developing in the north and east during the afternoon, mainly about the eastern ranges then extending southwards over central Victoria this evening. Fine over the far west and southwest. A generally warm to hot day inland with light winds tending moderate to fresh northwesterly. Milder near the coast with light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Tuesday 16 DecemberIsolated showers and thunderstorms contracting eastwards and clearing during the morning. Scattered showers developing from the west over southern and mountain districts during the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong to gale force about Alpine areas in the morning ahead of a cooler, fresh to strong west to southwesterly change extending throughout.Wednesday 17 DecemberIsolated showers about the coast clearing by the afternoon. A mild to warm and mostly sunny day with light to moderate southwest to southerly winds.Thursday 18 DecemberIsolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts. The chance of isolated thunderstorms about the eastern ranges during the afternoon.
