Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system near New Zealand will extend a ridge into the Coral Sea during the forecast period, whilst a broad area of low pressure will persist through the Queensland interior. A humid and unstable airmass will combine with a series of upper troughs moving east over the state to generate an active phase of showers and storms through many parts of the state until at least mid to late next week.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas, showers and storms about the southeastern corner of the state with some locally heavy falls likely with thunderstorms. Showers and gusty storms through the tropics, the northwest and in remaining central districts and the southern interior east of about Charleville. Some severe storms are likely. Fine and mostly clear in the southwest. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds, tending southwesterly in the southwest of the state.Sunday 7 DecemberA medium to high chance of showers and storms stretching from the northwest into the tropical inland and into the southeast of the state. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms near the tropical coast and through the central and southern interior east of about Longreach to Charleville. Some patchy cloud will persist through areas near and southwest of Longreach to Charleville though with just the slight chance of light rain. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds, tending west to southwesterly in the southwest of the state and southern interior.Fire Danger -  Very High about the parts of the central and southern interior.Monday 8 DecemberThe new upper trough will shift east over the interior. Humidity will increase through the southwest of the state leading to the slight to medium chance of showers and storms. A moist and unstable airmass will extend through remaining parts of the state with a medium to high chance of showers and storms, particularly over inland parts.Tuesday 9 DecemberThe upper trough should move into eastern Queensland, combining with the moist and unstable airmass to generate showers and storms through northern, central and southeastern districts. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms is expected through the west of the state to the west of the upper trough and in a slightly drier airmass.Wednesday 10 DecemberA surface trough is expected to enter the southwest of the state later in the day as the next upper trough starts to develop over southeast Australia. A moist unstable airmass will persist through northern, central and eastern districts with further showers and thunderstorms. A drier airmass should spread to the southwest of the state with fine and partly cloudy conditions expected here.Thursday until SaturdayThe surface trough should push northwards through southern Queensland on Thursday and is likely to contract off the southern Queensland coast late Thursday or during Friday. The surface trough is then likely to continue northwards through central Queensland on Friday and contract into the northeast of the state on Saturday. Showers and storms are likely to continue over areas to the north and east of the surface trough, while a cooler more stable south to southeasterly wind change should extend to areas to the southwest of the trough.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
