MELBOURNE - Nov 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation Slow moving high pressure centres in the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east Queensland coast during the forecast period. A broad area of low pressure extends through western Queensland and will persist through the forecast period. Forecast for the rest of SundayShowers and thunderstorms in the west and southern interior, with the chance of some locally heavy falls with storms. The slight chance of showers over eastern districts north of about St Lawrence. Fine and mostly clear in the southeast apart from a shower or two on the Granite Belt. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh at times near the central and southern tropical coasts.Monday 1 DecemberShowers and storms through much of the west, with possible locally heavy falls with storms. A medium chance of showers and storms developing through the tropical interior and also about the Granite Belt during the afternoon. The slight chance of showers through the remaining southeastern interior, and also about the east tropical and central coasts. Fine and mostly sunny through the Wide Bay and along the southern coast. Mostly moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, tending fresh northerly over the central interior during the morning.Fire Danger - Very High over parts of the central interior.Tuesday 2 DecemberA medium to high chance of showers and storms will persist in the northwest of the state and also near the southern border ranges. A slight chance of showers and storms will extend through the remaining west and into the tropical and southeastern interior. Much of the east coast should be fine with just the slight chance of showers near and north of about Fraser Island.Wednesday 3 DecemberA new upper trough will most likely enter the west of the state, leading to a medium to high chance of showers and storms over areas west of about Normanton to Cunnamulla. A slight chance of showers and storms will extend through the remaining west and into the southeastern interior, with a higher likelihood about the southern border ranges. The southern coast should remain fine, while some showers are possible about the coast and nearby inland near and north of Fraser Island.Thursday 4 DecemberThe new upper trough will likely shift east over the southern interior and into southeastern Queensland. Showers and storms will therefore become more likely over the southern interior and the western Darling Downs and should also continue through parts of the west. There is the slight chance of showers and storms extending further east into the southern central and southeastern inland, though storms are unlikely to reach the coast. A slight chance of showers is expected near the east coast.Friday until SundayA new trough should enter the west of the state on Friday and possibly intensify as it shifts slowly east into the central and southeastern interior during the weekend. This should result in a band of showers and storms from the northwest of the state through central and southern districts east of the trough. Conditions should become mostly fine through the southwest in the wake of the trough, though showers and storms might redevelop late in the weekend as yet another upper trough enters the region.
