MELBOURNE - Nov 29/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation Slow moving high pressure centres in the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east Queensland coast during the forecast period. An upper trough over eastern Queensland will push off the coast tonight. A broad area of low pressure extends through western Queensland and will persist through the forecast period. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms over western and southern Queensland. Some showers about eastern districts, though fine in the southeast. Mostly fine through the Peninsula and tropical interior with just the slight chance of showers. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds.Sunday 30 NovemberA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms in the west and southern interior, with the slight chance of some locally heavy falls with storms. Some showers about the east coast north of about Rockhampton. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected in the southeast apart from the chance of an afternoon shower on the southern Granite Belt. The Peninsula and tropical and central interior should be mostly fine with just the slight chance of showers. Mostly moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, tending fresh northerly over the central interior during the morning.Fire Danger - Very high over the southern and central interior.Monday 1 DecemberA ridge will persist along the east coast while the broad area of low pressure will persist in the west. Moisture is expected to increase further in the west, combining with the low pressure to result in showers and storms with some possible locally heavy falls with storms. The slight chance of showers and storms will also extend into the central and southeastern interior. The tropics should be mostly fine with just the slight chance of showers. Fine conditions are expected along the southern and Wide Bay coasts.Tuesday 2 DecemberA medium to high chance of showers and storms will persist through the west and southern interior as the area of low pressure remains. There is a slight chance of showers or storms developing through inland parts of eastern and central districts. The north tropical coast will remain mostly fine with just the slight chance of showers.Wednesday 3 DecemberA new upper trough will most likely enter the west of the state, with a medium to high chance of showers and storms through the west and southern interior. There is a slight chance of showers or storms developing through inland parts of eastern and central districts. The north tropical coast will remain mostly fine with just the slight chance of showers.Thursday until SaturdayThe upper trough will shift east into southeastern Queensland on Thursday, before another trough enters the far west of the state on Friday and shifts east on Saturday. This should result in showers and storms through western parts possibly extending to central and southeast parts due to the movement of the upper troughs.
