MELBOURNE - Nov 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high centred to the west of Bass Strait is extending a ridge along the New South Wales coast in the wake of a low pressure trough that lies over the far northeast. A new high centre will develop over the western Tasman Sea during Friday and should remain almost stationary for several days, becoming the dominant synoptic feature in the region. As this high strengthens winds will tend northerly across the state. On Saturday an inland trough will begin to extend south from Queensland to lie across most of NSW on Sunday. This inland trough will be slow moving and will begin to trigger an unsettled period of showers and thunderstorms across much of the state starting from Sunday extending into next week. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers and thunderstorms in the northeast. Generally cloudy east of the ranges except for the far south. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. South to southeasterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Friday 28 NovemberA high chance of showers in the northeast, and possible afternoon thunderstorms about the northern inland closer to the Queensland border. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Saturday 29 NovemberThe chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms over the northern inland. Slight risk of an afternoon shower or two about the southern ranges. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. East to northeasterly winds, freshening along the coast in the afternoon.Sunday 30 NovemberA medium chance of showers or thunderstorms in most districts, mainly in the afternoon. The chance of showers is least in the far northeast and southwest. Northwest to northeasterly winds, fresh along the coast.Monday 1 DecemberA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms across most eastern parts, with the chances decreasing in the far west of the state.
