Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure extends along the east Queensland coast. The ridge will strengthen on Friday as a new high centre develops over the western Tasman Sea. An upper trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior and should shift east over southeastern Queensland today. Another upper trough will move north into southern Queensland on Thursday. A slow moving surface trough lies through the southwest of the state. A coastal trough will most likely enter far southern Queensland waters during Thursday afternoon or evening and shift north.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and mostly sunny in the far southwest. A slight to medium chance of showers, patchy rain and storms over remaining western, central and southern parts of the state, increasing to a high likelihood in the western Gulf Country and also through the Maranoa into the southeast inland. Showers and possible storms about the southern tropical and central coasts, extending west to the eastern tropical interior during the day. Some showers about the remaining east tropical coast. Mostly light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh at times near the east tropical coast and in the far west of the state.Fire Danger - Very High over parts of the northern and central interior.Thursday 27 NovemberThe ridge along the east Queensland coast will strengthen late in the day as a new high develops over the western Tasman Sea. Instability will increase over the central west into the Maranoa and southeast as the upper trough moves north into southern Queensland, resulting in a medium to high likelihood of showers and storms. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms is expected through remaining parts of western and central Queensland, apart from the far southwest where conditions will remain fine and sunny. Some showers will persist about the tropical coast and parts of the northern interior.Friday 28 NovemberThe high centre in the Tasman Sea will extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The upper trough will shift north through southeast Queensland, while the coastal surface trough should also shift north towards the Sunshine Coast. Storms should therefore focus over areas north of Brisbane to the Capricornia coast and west through the central interior. Conditions will stabilise near and south of Brisbane though some showers remain likely, particularly during the morning. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms will persist through the remaining interior away from the southwest, increasing to a high likelihood in the far northwest. Some showers are expected near the east tropical and central coasts in the onshore wind flow.Saturday 29 NovemberThe high centre over the western Tasman Sea will remain slow moving and strengthen slightly, maintaining a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The upper trough will most likely shift further north into the Wide Bay and central districts, with showers and possible storms continuing in these parts, and just the slight to medium chance of showers further south along the southern coast. Fine and sunny conditions will continue in the southwest. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms will persist through remaining western, central and southern parts of the state, increasing to a high likelihood in the far northwest. The tropics will remain mostly fine with just the slight chance of showers.Sunday until TuesdayThe high will weaken on Sunday, while another high will enter the southern Tasman Sea and shift slowly east, maintaining a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Showers are expected about the east tropical and central coasts, though should decrease from Monday as the upper trough contracts off the coast into the Coral Sea. A new upper trough will most likely enter the southern interior of the state on Sunday and shift east, with showers and storms focused through far western parts of the state at first before extending east with the trough during Monday and Tuesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700
