Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure extends along the east Queensland coast. A high will shift slowly east over the Great Australian Bight during the next few days, reinforcing the ridge as it nears Tasmania on Thursday. An upper trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior and should shift east over southeastern Queensland on Wednesday. Another upper trough will move north from New South Wales into southern Queensland on Thursday. A slow moving surface trough lies through the southwest of the state. A coastal trough will most likely enter far southern Queensland waters during Thursday afternoon or evening and shift north.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayShowers and storms from the northwest of the state into the southern interior and parts of the central interior, developing into parts of the southeast this evening. Some showers about the east tropics and central coast, becoming more likely late this evening. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate northerly winds in the southeast, fresh at times near the coast. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Wednesday 26 NovemberShowers and storms over western and southern Queensland and into the central interior, mostly during the afternoon and evening. Showers and possible storms about the central and southern tropical east. Slight chance of showers elsewhere. Moderate northerly winds, fresh at times near the coast. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very High over the central interior.Thursday 27 NovemberThe ridge along the Queensland east coast will strengthen in response to the high shifting east to Tasmania. Instability will increase over the southeast of the state as the upper trough moves north from New South Wales and the coastal trough enters far southern coastal waters. Showers and storms should therefore develop from the northwest of the state into the central interior and southeast. Fine and sunny conditions are expected in the southwest. A slight chance of showers along the east tropical and central coasts.Friday 28 NovemberThe high will remain slow moving near Tasmania while another high centre will develop over the western Tasman Sea, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The upper trough will shift north into central Queensland, while the coastal surface trough should also shift north towards Fraser Island. Storms should therefore focus over areas north of Brisbane to the Capricornia coast and west through the central interior. Conditions will stabilise near and south of Brisbane though some showers remain likely. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms persists through the remaining interior apart from the far southwest. Some showers are expected near the east tropical and central coasts in the onshore wind flow.Saturday 29 NovemberThe high will remain slow moving near Tasmania while the high centre over the western Tasman Sea will strengthen slightly, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The upper trough will shift towards the east and off the central Queensland coast. Showers are expected over eastern Queensland, with only a slight chance of storms about the central east. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms over western Queensland.Sunday until TuesdayThe high centres are expected to remain slow moving though weaken, with the ridge along the east coast gradually relaxing as a result. Showers are expected about the east tropical and central coasts, though should decrease by Monday as the ridge weakens. A new upper trough will most likely enter the southern interior of the state on Sunday and shift east, with showers and storms focused through far western parts of the state at first before extending east with the trough and into the southeast by Tuesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700
