MELBOURNE - Nov 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure will remain along the Queensland east coast during the next few days. A broad area of low pressure over central Australia will combine with the ridge to draw hot air across much of southern Queensland. This hot air will be drawn eastwards across Queensland over the coming days ahead of a surface trough. The surface trough will drift eastwards across the state during the next couple of days. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine and mostly clear across the state, apart from the chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far south and around the Carnarvon Ranges. Mainly moderate northeast to northwest winds, but tending moderate to fresh west to southwesterly in the Channel Country.Sunday 16 NovemberHot to very hot across the southern districts. Fine and mostly sunny across the state except for the chance of some isolated showers and thunderstorms over southern districts and the far northwest, but with little or no rainfall. Mainly moderate northeast to northwest winds, but tending moderate to fresh south to southwesterly in the southwest.Fire Danger - Severe to Extreme in the southeast and southern inland, Very High elsewhere.Monday 17 NovemberThe high over southern Australia should push a slightly milder southeast change into Queensland's southeast coast region, providing some relief from the very hot temperatures, but after a hot night. A surface trough should stretch from the northwest of the state down to the South Burnett, with the slight chance of showers and storms near and north of this inland trough in the southeast. A slight chance of some light showers about the North Tropical Coast and the Peninsula coast, with the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm about the far northwest of the state. Fine elsewhere. Warm to hot across most of the interior and the southeast.Tuesday 18 NovemberThe surface trough is expected to stretch from the Gulf Country down to the southeast interior. Fine and warm across most of the state. A medium chance of showers and storms in the southeast, near and to the east of the trough. A slight chance of some light showers about the east Peninsula coast, with the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm about the far northwest of the state.Wednesday 19 NovemberThe high should move east and into the Tasman Sea. The surface trough will remain slow moving from the Gulf Country down to the southeast interior. Fine and warm across most of the state. A medium chance of showers and storms in the southeast, near and to the east of the trough. A slight chance of some light showers about the east Peninsula coast, with the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm about the far northwest of the state.Thursday until SaturdayThe high will shift east through the Tasman Sea, extending a ridge along the Queensland east coast. The surface trough is expected to move slowly inland. Showers and storms are possible near the surface trough and also over Queensland's southeast. Isolated showers about the northern tropical east. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
