MELBOURNE - Nov 11/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure will extend along the east Queensland coast during the next few days. A slow moving surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southeastern interior. It will weaken from Thursday as a new trough moves east over central Australia. Hot conditions will affect much of the southern interior during the forecast period, and should spread into southeast parts late in the week as the new trough shifts east into the state. Forecast for the rest of TuesdaySome showers and thunderstorms from the northwest of the state into the central and southeastern interior, possibly reaching the southern coast this evening. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds through northern districts. Moderate to fresh and gusty southwest to southeasterly winds in the southwest and southern interior. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Wednesday 12 NovemberSome showers about the Gold Coast, possibly extending north to the Sunshine Coast. Some showers and thunderstorms developing over the Carnarvon ranges, the Maranoa and southeast inland. Some showers and thunderstorms also developing about the far northwest of the state. The slight chance of showers about the northeast tropical coast in the onshore flow. Hot conditions through the southern interior. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds through northern districts. Moderate to fresh and gusty southwest to southeasterly winds in the southwest and southern interior. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very High through parts of the interior, particularly about the eastern interior.Thursday 13 NovemberThe high in the Tasman Sea will shift further east, maintaining a weak ridge about the east coast with some showers expected about the north tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. A weak surface trough will likely extend through the southeastern interior, with possible showers near the Gold Coast and the slight chance of showers or thunderstorms over the southeast inland and Carnarvon ranges. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere, with another hot day over the southern interior.Friday 14 NovemberThe high in the Tasman Sea will continue to move eastwards and maintain a weak ridge along the east coast, with some showers persisting about the north tropical coast in the onshore flow. A trough is likely to enter the southwest of the state late in the day, generating some showers and thunderstorms about the southwest and parts of the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Northerly winds will lead to hot conditions about the southern interior and the southeast of the state, although sea breezes should moderate temperatures slightly on the southern coastal fringe.Saturday 15 NovemberThe high in the Tasman Sea will continue to weaken whilst a new high will move into the Great Australian Bight, extending a firm ridge into far southwestern Queensland. There is some uncertainty regarding the movement of the surface trough but it is likely to move eastwards through the interior of the state. Some showers and storms are possible over the southern interior and southeast though with little rainfall expected. Hot north to northwesterly winds ahead of the trough will lead to enhanced fire dangers about southern districts. Some showers and storms are also possible about the far northwest of the state with the slight chance of showers about the northeast coast.Sunday until TuesdayThe surface trough is likely to contract off the southern Queensland coast at some stage during Sunday with a cooler southerly change gradually extending north along the southern coast in its wake during Monday. Some showers may occur about the southeast of the state near and in the wake of the trough. The surface trough is likely to linger about the southeast of the state on Tuesday with showers and storms possible.
