MELBOURNE - Oct 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will move from the Southern Ocean to reach western Victoria late on Friday afternoon then cross the remainder of the State overnight and early Saturday then an associated deep low pressure system will pass just south of Tasmania later on Saturday. A high pressure system will move over Bight waters on Saturday night before drifting slowly towards western Victoria on Sunday then crossing the State Sunday night to reach the Tasman Sea on Monday. The high will move southeastwards over the southern Tasman Sea on Tuesday while a low pressure trough will reach western Victoria during the afternoon and central parts of the State in the evening. Forecast for the rest of FridayEarly fog patches in the south. Cloud increasing from the west with isolated showers developing in the west later in the afternoon and extending to central areas later in the evening. A band of rain to follow reaching the west in the evening. Warm to hot with moderate to locally fresh northerly winds ahead of a cooler southwesterly change in the west, extending to the east overnight.Saturday 1 NovemberA band of rain over central areas early in the morning moving across eastern districts later in the morning then clearing the state about mid afternoon. Scattered showers to follow over southern and mountain areas and snowfalls developing about southern Alpine peaks above 1500 metres later in the afternoon. Local hail possible near the coast. Cool to cold and mostly cloudy in the south with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong about the coast. Mild and partly cloudy in the north with freshening southwest to southerly winds.Sunday 2 NovemberIsolated showers in the south, scattered at first near the Gippsland coast but clearing from the west during the afternoon. Brief snow showers above 1300 metres on the Gippsland ranges until the afternoon and hail about the Gippsland coast in the morning. A cool to mild and sunny day in the north, rather cold and partly cloudy in the south. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds easing in the west.Monday 3 NovemberFine apart from morning fog patches in the south. A mostly sunny day although cloud developing later in the west.
