MELBOURNE - Oct 26/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure lies along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough in the southwest of the state will move eastwards across southern Queensland during the rest of today and Tuesday, contracting off the far southern coast during Tuesday morning. Hot and gusty west to northwest winds over southern Queensland ahead of the surface trough will lead to elevated fire dangers. Forecast for the rest of MondayHot with elevated fire dangers over the southern interior and the southeast of the state. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in a broad band stretching from the Central West district to the southeast of the state. Thunderstorms are also possible over much of the southern and western interior but little if any rainfall is expected. Fine and sunny over the rest of the state. Moderate to fresh and gusty northwest to southwest winds across the southern districts and the Central West. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Extreme to severe over large parts of the southern interior. Severe over the southeast and the northern interior. Very high elsewhere.Tuesday 28 OctoberThe surface trough should extend from the northwest of the state down to the southeast. Hot with elevated fire dangers ahead of the trough. Milder, but still above average temperatures behind the trough over the southern interior. Some showers and storms ahead of the trough in a broad band from the northwest down to the southeast of the state. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Wednesday 29 OctoberThe surface trough should shift northwards, producing a band of showers and storms from the Gulf Country down to the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts. Warm to hot over the southeast and the central interior.Thursday 30 OctoberThe surface trough should drift southwards to lie from the northern interior down to the southeast of the state and should produce an associated band of showers and storms stretching from the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders down to the Southeast Coast district. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Friday until SundayShowers and storms should occur to the north of the surface trough in a broad band stretching from the northwest of the state down to the southeast. Fine over most of the remainder of the state.
